Ball Bearing Sizes — 6000, 6200, 6300 Series

Deep groove ball bearing dimensions and load ratings for 6000, 6200 and 6300 series.

About this calculator

A bearing size reference covers the standard dimensions, load ratings, and applications of common rolling-element bearings — the 6000, 6200, and 6300 series (deep groove ball bearings), and the 22000 series (spherical roller bearings). Bearings are specified by a numeric designation that encodes the bore diameter and series.

For 6000-series bearings, the last two digits times 5 give the bore diameter in millimetres (above 6004). For example a 6205 bearing has a 25 mm bore; a 6210 has a 50 mm bore. The first digit indicates the series — larger series numbers indicate higher load capacity and larger outer diameter for the same bore.

Worked example

Inputs: Common bearing: 6205-2RS (sealed deep groove ball bearing)

  1. Series 62 (medium load), bore code 05
  2. Inner diameter (bore) = 5 × 5 = 25 mm
  3. Outer diameter = 52 mm, Width = 15 mm
  4. Suffix 2RS = double-sided contact rubber seal (most common for general industrial use)
  5. Dynamic load rating: 14.0 kN, Static load: 7.85 kN

Frequently asked questions

Which bearing series is "best"?

There is no universal best — each series suits different loads. 6000-series (light): light radial loads, high speeds, small package. 6200-series (medium): the most common general-purpose bearing. 6300-series (heavy): high radial loads, lower speeds. 6400-series (extra heavy): very high loads. For any application, the engineering challenge is to specify the smallest, lightest bearing that meets the load and service life requirements.

How do I know when to replace a bearing?

Symptoms of bearing failure include: audible whining/whirring noise (slow degradation), grinding/rumbling (advanced wear), excessive heat at the bearing housing (>20 °C above ambient = problem), shaft vibration outside normal range, or visible play when the shaft is wiggled. Replace at first signs of trouble — bearing failure rarely happens gracefully and often takes shafts and housings with it.
