Banks add a spread (commission) on top of the mid-market rate — typically 2–4% for retail FX. Our converter shows the mid-market rate (the midpoint between buy and sell prices in the interbank market). Specialist FX services (Wise, Revolut, Western Union's online tool) offer rates much closer to mid-market than high-street banks.
The Frankfurter API updates daily at approximately 4 PM CET (European Central Bank reference rate). Weekend rates remain at Friday's value. For real-time trading rates, use a dedicated FX terminal — but for personal budgeting, daily updates are perfectly adequate.
